I'm a bandit!
I'm in the process of creating some 100% new loot tables for the server. This will affect the way loot spawns in all locations.

Currently the method I use to remove and add in new loot items is limited and revolves around replacing items with one of more new ones. This essentially means I can't change the location items spawn in currently, only their rarity. This is not the case for the new tables they will be 100% rewritten from the default tables.

Here are my aims

- Sniper rifles will remain as rare as they are now if not rarer, DMR/M24 will be very rare.
- Sandbags will be more common, I would like to keep them spawning at military and miltary-special locations only to bring traffic to the airfields/stary
- High value items will be moved from crash sites to barracks, this is somewhat experimentation on my part. I'm hoping the result will be that these weapons such as the DMR and the MK17 Sniper will be even rarer than they are now and riskier to loot.
- Military loot table will be gimped - The military loot table is the one used in firestations and the stary tents. It contains some weapons which imo should never spawn on the coast, things like M14/DMR. My new version of this table is likely to include little to no sniper rifles with a heavier emphasis on SMG's and weaker assault rifles.
- Deer stand loot improved, this loot table has sucked since the last couple of patches I will be improving it

There are other things I am debating trying such as moving clothing out of residential tables and into military/military-special tables.

I'm am not promising we are going to get every thing right first time but I think these changes will definitely improve the overall balance of loot on the server and hopefully attract more traffic up north to Stary the NEA and NWA. Because I am considering making so many changes which could affect the military-special (barracks) loot I have considered adding a second set of barracks to the NEA and possibly Stary we will see though. One thing I don't want to encourage however is loot cycling and I know moving some things from crash sites to barracks could cause this.

Another possibility I have considered is making crash sites rarer but keeping the higher tier items specifically only in that loot table, with less lower tier ones. That way finding an unlooted crash site would mean there is almost always a chance of some top grade gear being there.

What is everyone elses thoughts and suggestions for the new tables? Are there any items you feel are currently too common or too rare? I'm not going to be able to please everyone I'm sure but I will do my best.

I always believed the best gear should be found at crash sites.

But as you stated, you need something to bring traffic to the air fields.

Deer stands should have a higher chance of spawning hunting rifles and lower chance of DMR/M24 (very low, but still possible) as it is a sniper/hunting stand for ranged rifles.

Really like the idea of this because this should force more people to the airfields which is a good thing. I am certainly a fan of making clothing something military based so that these only can be gathered up in the North aswell.

Making snipers rarer is a good thing aswell because this would improve the happiness of finding one :)

Not a fan of having less chopper chrashes though, just because I love shooting them down, always find dynamic things like this a very good aspect of the game.

Could you have more common choppers that spawn more common assault rifles like M4's and AKs at about 75%, 20% shared between less common assualt rifles (Mk16 Holo, ACOG M16's etc), machine guns, FAL's and 5% CZ 550, non camo SVD (I want so bad) and M24.

Then you could still have "rare" choppers that spawn the much rarer stuff. Mk17's, SVD Camo, M40A3, DMR's etc.

That would allow people to still have the fun of shooting down choppers and looting crashes while keeping the harder to find guns...harder to find.

It could also make some people who would not normally shoot down a heli take the risk of doing so when they see that it is a rarer one.

I dont really know how practical this idea would be though.

Most of the changes look really good, but I think you should leave the chances of high grade guns spawning in the coast in fire stations. This is to encourage players to actually enter cities like Cherno and Elektro, which are much harder to camp than say, NWA or NEA(big open fields easily coverable by one sniper). Moving all the good stuff up north will encourage even more camping at these locations than there currently is. I wouldn't make crash sites rarer because I rarely ever saw one on the server, plus having less of them gives an even bigger advantage to the few airborne players the server has (the rich get richer situation), removing some lower level loot on them might be a good idea though, since finding an M16 or FAL on one of these can be quite...depressing.

Now, naturally my experience is only mine, but these are my views. Took me ages to find a single M24 on the server, when DMRs were in overabundance.

I reckon I see at least 1 every day I play...and most of the time I am on foot. You must just be looking in the wrong places. xD

The one thing that annoys me about helicrashes currently is that when they are flying about, no matter how many times I hit one with an M14 it doesn't seem to come down.

I meant on the ground, since it didn't matter whether I was firing an M14 at it, or whether me and four ARNIE guys were pumping AKM, DMR, M14 and a variety of weaker weapons into the hull. Maybe just me. I found four of them next to each other at night, once.

I would like to keep some good loot on the coast instead of moving all of the good weapons up north. I like the idea but when I am on the coast, I am usually not too happy to have been recently killed, or I am just disappointed to have to run all the way back up to stary, NW or NE. Also, if there is a highly geared bandit sniping bambies on the coast, I would like to have some decent gear to be able to take that person or group out.

as you know the new patch has gun modifications so it may well pay to see how this is implemented before changing coastal weapons, as being able to make your own 4x zoom to stick on an akm or m16 is pretty nice and will no doubt fill the gap left by the lack of snipers, although the gun modification might just not work at all. also i feel the cz550 has a place on the coast as it essentially is a hunting rifle and has no zero'ing.

firing at the hull to down a chopper is like shooting the back doors of a car and expecting it fireball into the air... shoot the engines/rotor blades/pilot...

Definitely not going to happen. I see too many people on our server who never even make it north of the coast. People who loot an m24 in the elektro firestation and spend the rest of the week there sniping noobs. I'm not going to take all the good stuff from the coast but you definitely won't find a sniper rifle other than the odd rare CZ there unless you kill someone with one. You will find your basic equpiment before heading north to the crash sites and stary, an assault rifle with iron sights or in rare cases a CCO will be the best thing in most fire stations.

If you want good gear you will need to venture north to find it, there will be a rare chance of finding the odd thing in firestations but there won't be any of the top tier items like DMR. As for needing good gear to kill highly geared players sniping fresh spawns, all you need is a lee enfield, determination and some skill. I used to regularly use elektro campers as my way of gearing up when I spawned at the coast, they more often not had AS50's and L85 thermals still didn't stop the enfield justice before I ran north fully geared ;)

There's a reason they are static on top of a hill with 4 guys fully geared shooting people with hatchets - they suck and would die in an instant up north at one of the pvp hotspots. All it takes is patience and in some cases persistence and you can use them for your gear.

I agree that top tier guns like DMR / M24 may not spawn at the coast. Every time Shortboy respawns he just runs to a firestation to find a M24/DMR. If top tier guns wouldn't spawn at the coast it would indeed kind of force people to the North which is a good thing in my eyes :)

Yeah it wouldn't be so bad if the percentages weren't so broken to go along with it. The lowest percentage you can define in a loot table (without using another work around that I use on some items now) is 0.01 this would be fine if that was actually the percentage but there have been bugs in the way dayz builds a weighted array for quite some time now.

I can see from the patch notes a lot is going to be changing in the new update including hopefully the way the loot percentages are calculated. Also it sounds like loot cycling won't be an issue with it taking 30 mins to respawn loot piles. Hopefully the changes allow me to do things like add an extremely rare chance for some items to spawn on the coast, providing incentive to go there without seeing lots of people spawning and acquiring it.

Yeah, always wondered why it wasn't possible to just adjust the loot tables to for example 0.01 %, but apparently it's just a bug :p

I am now 100% convinced this is a good idea.
