*This may be a long a boring read, so i provided a TL;DR at the bottom*
So i logged in tonight with 1 mission: set up base camp.
I started off at stary sobor where i logged off a few days before. I decided i felt safe enough to loot the tents for a few. Nothing too good came from it, got some extra AKM ammo, but that was about it. I decided to head to bigger and better things, i decided to head to the NWAF. Upon arrival to the airfield i notice no zombies have spawned in - a good sign for a novice player like me, as player contact would almost certainly conclude in me having a heart attack. I begin sneaking in to the hangers, the night as my shield. A few of the hangers were pitch black, i ended up running into a few zombies along the way to the fire station! Thankfully i looted plenty of bandages to cover me, but that was all. Wheres all the great weapons that I hear so much about??
I continue onward to the fire station, in hope of something better than my AKM. Somewhere between the last hanger and the fire station door, i aggro at least 8 zombies. I panic and run inside. Once inside I had to make a split second decision: Run out the front doors into the fray, or try to hide up in the tower and hope the zombies don't follow. Unfortunately, i never got to make that decision, as i was kicked from the game (got everything sorted out in the end). I dreaded logging back in, it had been about an hour sense i was kicked. I had heard many stories of murder at the airfields, and assumed that the fire station was a pretty horrible place to log in at. Finally, I worked up the nerve to log back in....
To my surprise, zombies de spawn when no one is around, and thankfully, no players were nearby to kill me! I then made my way to the ACT (by this time it was semi morning outside, a little scary for the newbie survivor), attracting only a few zombies. Thankfully a few well placed G17 bullets took care of them nicely. To my dismay, it appeared I rushed to the ACT too soon after logging in, there was no loot! I took my losses and climbed down the ladder and made my way to the opposite side of the airfield, to the barracks i go!
I notice something large on the airfield and i go to investigate, its the charred hull of some strange helicopter/airplane, i have never seen an aircraft like it before. There was a lone tent beside it. Oh joy. I can finally start my base camp!
At this time the server was about to restart, so i decided to log off and search some online maps for a good hiding place for my new camp! After the restart I head down to Lopatino, in hopes that maybe i can find a map and some binoculars (The only things i needed to have most of the necessary tools). Unfortunately I couldn't find any there, nor in Vybor. I decided to end my search with Pusto. On my way to pusto, i say an odd shape on the horizon. I recognized this shape from other servers...It was a care package!!!! I ran to it! I discovered an AK cobra, and an M14. I decided to keep my AKM, and clear some room in my British backpack for the M14. After some heart wrenching decisions i freed up enough space for the gun and the 2 DMR clips that it came with, feeling a bit too lite on food, i head to Pusto.
Once in Pusto, i did a surprisingly good job avoiding zombie aggro, sneaking into the supermarket. Once i got in, i immediately noticed a pair of binoculars! my lucky day! Now all i need is a....HOLY CRAP! THERES A MAP! I felt like a million bucks! I had everything i set out to get, and an extra gun to boot!! Now that its about 330AM my time, i figure i better just find a place for this tent and store some items.
I treck a long distance and finally find a decent area for my beloved tent. I set it up near a tree, a bit too close it seems, as i cant access the tent! Eventually i found a little area where i could access it, but i didn't want my first base camp to be hard for me to access, so i chose to "pick it up" so i could move it. Apparently picking up the tent actually means it drops as an item. No big deal, ill just pick it up off the ground and replace....it....
After about 25 minutes of trying to pick up the tent, I concede. My efforts were futile, the tent remained forever stuck under the tree. I suppose tomorrow ill just have to search for another tent....
TL;DR Spent all night looking for a tent, placed it under a tree, couldn't pick it up, rage quit, see ya tomorrow!
