edit: Some of this no longer applies, because I am fucking awesome I have already moved your characters from the old database to the new one. The vehicles from the old database will likely be lost so the only thing left for me to transfer now is tents and bases....

Our DayZ server has used something called Reality (originally Bliss) for its database interactions ever since it was first setup. Since 1.8 Reality support for DayZ is being dropped. Everything is still up in the air at the moment but hopefully a method to migrate our old format of database to the default one can be found soon. I might have to code one myself....

Today there were some server issues which I cannot rule the old database out of being the cause of. I have put the server back up on a completely fresh database using the recommended database format to test some things. I want to see what is improved, and what problems are gone now under the new patch.

For now at least this means everything is gone. I hope I will be able to merge the old database but with the new one and bring your statistics, and bases etc back but its not for certain at the moment. I will of course update this thread as I have more information.

On the upside this should hopefully put an end to some bugs such as

- Overall database sync should be improved
- Vehicle damage bugs should be fixed
- Tent and basebuilding bugs should be fixed
- Traps should work and save their state between restarts
- Gender selection should work (I think)

Overall the server should run a lot better than it had been originally under 1.8.0.2 as it was never officially supported by reality in the first place. Please understand I am doing everything I can to preserve everything in the old database, your characters your tents and your bases. I do not want to lose 10 months of history as much as you guys including the hundreds of vehicle spawns I have created. This isn't definitely going to be possible but I will be working on it.

I have done everything I can to avoid any kind of database wipe in the past, in nearly 11 months we have not had a single wipe where other hives have had many. That may not be possible this time but its too early to say at the moment and I am spending all the time I can trying to sort it out.

The best thing you can all do is to make yourselves at home on the new database and hopefully things should run smoother. If you do not login just because you lost a character it hurts the server a lot. The best thing you can all do is to continue playing on the server as before and reporting bugs. A wipe like this will definitely effect the player count temporarily and I urge you all to avoid not logging in just because player numbers are lower or you don't have some gear. It's DayZ you can lose everything at any time.

Nothing has been lost forever its just in a separate database right now. Any progress you make on this fresh database will not be lost if the two are merged. I have already merged my old vehicle spawn points and any vehicles you collect will stay in the server if the databases are combined.

Vehicles from new hive will be disappearing and respawning at some point, there's the default number of vehicles atm which means only 45 and loads of choppers + I havent added all my own spawn points back yet to change those things I will need to re-spawn all vehicles. If you loot things don't keep them in a vehicle use your char or a tent.

Ok so the differences between the two database formats weren't too bit a problem for the vehicle spawns. I have now imported all my old vehicle spawns to the new database.

To do this I had to remove the existing vehicles, so there's a shit load at spawn points now. These vehicles won't need to be deleted again so better get running to those spawn points and start hoarding!

CHARACTERS HAVE BEEN RESTORED

(I think, believe it or not I'm at work and can't test this) but all characters both dead and alive should now be imported.

Tonight I will take a look at tents and base-building items then we are pretty much done I hope :)

The dayz spawn points got duplicated when I imported the old ones, I'll clear it up once I'm done importing the bases until that's done you might see some vehicles that have spawned inside each other at spawn points lol

The default code says to remove traps after the owner has died, that should be working but I haven't automated the running of vehicle spawn/cleanup yet anyway so for now they will stay forever muhahaha. Once I have the bases and tents merged I need to fix the duplicate vehicle spawn problem (may require some/all vehicles to be deleted one more time) then I'll move onto the smaller stuff like the vehicle spawn/cleanups.

I realized earlier that keeping the owner value correct for the bases is going to be a pain in the ass so it might take me a little longer than just this evening but we will see.

Tents and bases are coming back after the next restart :D

I have also changed the script so you don't need to die to remove a basebuilding item. If you are the owner you can always remove it. There might be some items that need their owner updating manually (68 our of 930) but everyone else should be fine. If you find you can't remove one of your own items let me know.

Duplicate vehicle spawn points have been removed now, I'll clear up the vehicles spawned inside each other manually (with a bag full of satchel charges :geek: )

Looks like I spoke to soon. Object ownership is not working for everyone and the codes for bases are not being recognized. I will go back to the drawing board tomorrow night. Will leave the bases in game for now I guess.

Had to remove the BB items again last night for some other problems that I'll be working on tonight.

Any base building items you build will be deleted until I have finished restoring things so keep your resources in a tent until then.

Progress has been made this evening at the cost of about 60 server restarts and pissing me off lol

I still have the problem of object placement to solve at the moment objects look like http://puu.sh/4MOPm.png instead of loading flat against the ground like http://puu.sh/4MONu.png

On the upside I have most things working I hope but there is still some work to be done. One limitation at the moment is that we will be back to the long codes for the basebuilding key panels which I won't be able to edit. Still some testing to be done but hopefully I can get there tomorrow.

Fredrich check out dayz epoch or overwatch for dogs, they are very buggy and broken still.

1.8.0.2 loot bug has been identified we're testing things atm but razor thinks patch will be out early next week. The bug involves a timer set by your client for a building to be able to respawn loot. The problem is every clients timer could be a totally different number. If someone else has been to an area and defined the loot timers it can result in no loot spawns for your client.

Bases are indeed back now & so are tents. we are having trouble accessing our info panels though. Obviously our 4 digit code has gone as you mentioned in a previous post. So we removed the info stand completely to replace it and thus generate a new code...but they still wont open the gates even with a new code.

I'm not sure if this is happening to everyone or just us (and others) who went to a 4 digit code. :D

Yeah they are back to the long codes now, I have a feeling once you build one the code won't work till after a server restart at the moment.
